How To
How to Add a Watermark to a PDF
Stamp DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL, or your name across every page
5 August 2026 · 3 min read
A visible watermark makes a document's status or ownership obvious at a glance. Here's how to add one.
What you'll need
- The PDF you want to watermark
- The text you want stamped (e.g. "DRAFT", a company name)
- Under 30 seconds
Open the Watermark PDF tool
Go to iguardpdf.com/watermark-pdf.
Upload your PDF
Single or multi-page — the watermark applies to every page.
Type your watermark text
DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL, a company name — whatever you need stamped across the document.
Click Add Watermark
The stamped PDF downloads — visible text diagonally across every page, readable but not blocking the content underneath.
Common mistakes to avoid
•Relying on a watermark as real security — it's a visible marker, not encryption; pair it with real password protection or Guarded fingerprinting if access actually needs to be controlled.
•Choosing text that's too long — short, clear text (DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL, a short company name) reads better than a full sentence stamped across the page.
Beyond this: building a complete workflow
A watermark is often one part of a bigger security pass:
Upload, type your text, watermark — status and ownership, visible on every page.
Safe in our hands
iGuardPDF takes file handling seriously. A few things worth knowing, whichever tool you're using:
- Every upload and download runs over TLS (HTTPS) — your file never crosses the network unencrypted.
- Files are processed to run the tool you asked for, then deleted. We don't archive uploads or keep a copy afterward.
- Free tools need no account, so there's no identity to build a tracking profile against in the first place.
- Nothing you upload is ever used to train an AI model, ours or anyone else's.
