How to Add Text to a PDF Online

Fill in a form, label something, or fix a typo — no software required

PDFs are deliberately hard to edit — but adding a bit of text onto a page shouldn't mean recreating the whole document. Here's how to do it directly, with a free online editor.

What you'll need

  • The PDF you want to edit
  • A browser
  • A minute or two, depending on how much text you're adding
1

Open the PDF Editor

Go to iguardpdf.com/pdf-editor and upload your file. Every page renders as a preview so you can see exactly where you're placing text.

2

Choose a text size

Pick Small, Medium, or Large from the toolbar before you start placing text — this sets the size for anything you add next.

3

Click where you want to add text

Click anywhere on any page and a text box appears right there. Type your text — it stays editable until you're happy with it.

4

Adjust placement if needed

Drag the small handle on a text box to reposition it, or tap the × to remove it and try again. Nothing is final until you save.

5

Save your edited PDF

Click Save PDF — your edits become part of the document and it downloads. Turn on Guarded first if the filled-in document needs to be fingerprinted and trackable.

Common mistakes to avoid

Clicking on the page by accident while trying to select an existing text box — a click on empty space always creates a new box, so click directly on an existing box's text to edit it instead.

Forgetting to pick a text size before adding a lot of text — you can still resize the whole selection's active preset, but it's faster to set it once upfront.

Click, type, save — filling in a PDF shouldn't take longer than that.

Safe in our hands

iGuardPDF takes file handling seriously. A few things worth knowing, whichever tool you're using:

  • Every upload and download runs over TLS (HTTPS) — your file never crosses the network unencrypted.
  • Files are processed to run the tool you asked for, then deleted. We don't archive uploads or keep a copy afterward.
  • Free tools need no account, so there's no identity to build a tracking profile against in the first place.
  • Nothing you upload is ever used to train an AI model, ours or anyone else's.
