How to Compress a PDF Without Losing Quality

"Attachment too large" is one of the most common reasons a document doesn't send on the first try. Compressing it properly — not just aggressively — is the fix. Here's how to do it without ending up with blurry text.

The compressed file downloads with a note on how much smaller it got. Open it and check the text and any images are still legible — good compression should be barely noticeable to the eye.
Common mistakes to avoid
•Assuming smaller always means worse — a well-built compressor targets the images in a PDF (usually the bulk of the file size), not the text, so quality loss should be minimal.
•Compressing a file that's already small — if a PDF is mostly text with no images, there's often little left to shrink, and that's expected, not a bug.
