What "protecting" a PDF means here
Some online tools that claim to "password-protect" a PDF just wrap a viewer prompt around the file without actually encrypting the content — the underlying data is still readable by any tool that ignores the prompt. iGuardPDF's Password Protect applies real AES-256 encryption to the file itself, so the content is genuinely unreadable without the password, not just hidden behind a UI.
This was independently verified during development against poppler, an open-source PDF library, rather than relying only on our own code checking its own work.
